Don Melchor is one of Chile’s best-known and most highly regarded premium wines – a Cabernet Sauvignon-driven wine that is produced in the unique terroir of Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley, at the foot of the Andes. The wine bears the name of Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, the founder of Concha y Toro. He brought vines from Bordeaux to Chile as early as 1883 and laid the foundation for the estate’s long wine tradition.

The first vintage of Don Melchor was 1987, and it is considered Chile’s first truly iconic wine. Already the second vintage, 1988, brought Don Melchor to international attention with the recognition of Wine Spectator. Since then, the wine has become an international symbol of Chilean quality production, known especially for its elegance, depth, refined structure and long aging potential.

Don Melchor was selected as the 2024 World's Best Wine by Wine Spectator (#1 Wine of the Year). It was a historic recognition for both Don Melchor and the entire Chilean wine culture.
In this lecture, Joe Fattorini will guide you through Don Melchor and the unique history of this wine, its uncompromising production and the people who have raised it to the absolute top of the wine world. Joe Fattorini is an award-winning wine writer, presenter and wine educator, known for his ability to make the world of wine exciting and accessible.

This lecture will feature three vintages of the iconic Don Melchor wine, as well as the first rare wine from their new limited-edition collection — “The Parcel” Series— DM01 2022.
